DHAKA, Bangladesh – Police say they have arrested three top leaders of an Islamic opposition party on contempt of court charges. Dhaka Police Commissioner A.K.M. Shahidul Haque says the leaders of Bangladesh’s largest Islamic party, Jamaat-e-Islami, were detained late Tuesday.

Hey, I’m a student who’s 16 years old and I live In NYC. I was thinking about doing some volunteer work in Bangladesh this summer break…but I have no idea where to start? I want to join some team that gathers students around my age or w.e and takes them there and then assign them some work. (whether its feeding them, teaching them, etc) Do anyone know where and how I can start? Any link to websites would be great.
Other information: I am willing to pay for the trip but my budget is 00—I speak Bengali–I’ve been to Bangladesh once but it was a long time ago

I’m in tenth grade in US and came here when I was ten. Now I am planning to go to Bangladesh to do medical studies. Are the Private colleges better than the Public(Government) colleges? Is it full English? How much safety? Benefits?

You may come here for the medical college exam test (I’m talking about 15 Government run medical colleges, listed below. You would find that you can get through any of the many privately owned medical colleges in Bangladesh who are basically ‘start-up’ and trying to survive the competition from the government run (public) medical colleges in terms of affiliation of their degrees or acceptance of their standards.
The courses are conducted in English, but due to clarity the teachers sometimes explains in Bangla, when required. As for safety of foreign students, I think we have never heard anything in the negative. I have seen students from India, Pakistan and Nepal in SSMC and DMC and also in CMC (from Iran too). Benefit is that you may spend one-tenth or less than that amount to complete the 5-years MBBS course from Bangladesh than what you would be spending in USA.

3. Begum Khaleda Zia Medical College, Dhaka

So, if you are talking about the private medical colleges then please be prepared to have some donation-money (US,000 or BDT 700,000) deposited so that they can take you even if the grades are not so good for the public medical colleges. It would be very good for you if you can get a seat in any of the 15 public medical colleges.

wow, I am not even sure if they keep records of that in Bangladesh since Bangladesh is not really a Bureaucratic country. You might can call a U.S. offce to ask them on how to find out.

I’m sorry that I could not grasp the first question “What is considered financially rich in Bangladesh?” Let me try anyway… Financially rich business at this moment is export oriented garments factories and associated services, like Buying Houses or its representatives.
For a single person in middle class category the complete living cost may come somewhere around US00 per month considering you are availing bachelor’s facilities those you get in the western world, like decent full furnished single-room apartment, private car, telephone & cell/mobile phones, A/C, Hot water supply, nutritious meals etc.
Now if you want to have bare minimum facilities and cut the above or their costs by 50% then US0 per month would suffice.
Therefore, USD50000 could be consumed up within maximum 100 months (about 8 to 10 years) and minimum 50 months (about 4 to 5 years) depending on your lifestyle and expenses incurred to maintain them.
A High School Teacher (at a city or suburb) makes about US0 to US0 if he/she gets the opportunity to do some ‘private tuition’ job, which is also becoming controversial issue in these days. So, let us say a teacher could make barely Taka 10,000/- (US0) if he/she is not doing any extra job on top of regular service as a teacher.
