@shaolin00 I am Indian Bengali. My dad was born in Jessore, and six decades of stay in the western wing haven’t faded his love for Dhanyakura, which I presume may have been a nondescript village. This particular song captures the Bengali attributes of serene courage and supreme self-sacrifice, attributes that may appear to militate against an world order dictated by cash. Dhaka must be praised for retaining the quintessentially Bengali tune in the official instrumental rendition of this song.

@manavkapur87 Indian Constitution section 343 (1) : “The official Language of the Union shall be Hindi in Devanagri Script”
Now whether you use the term “Official” of “National” the end result is the same: When important and serious documents are created i.e. Your Indian PASSPORT and PRINTED MONEY, HINDI IS USED. And therefore implicitly, Hindi is the undeclared (to avoid outrage among states) National Language of India.

@manavkapur87 PLEASE LOOK AT YOUR PASSPORT TO DETERMINE THE NATIONAL LANGUAGE OF INDIA – ITS HINDI (with English alongside).
(apologise for being a little frustrated at you, I thought you were another like tourkolkata asshole, but you have a more civilised approach. Thanks)

@BoyBangla I’m not talking the arrant shit that Tourkolkata is- “too much credit for doing nothing” is nonsense. However, I’d like to point out that the language in the National Courts, and the army continues to be English. This is because Hindi has still not been accepted (and rightly so) throughout the country. I apologise if you think I don’t know what I’m talking about, and shan’t bother arguing the point.

@BoyBangla Not really. Bengali’s healthy in India, and Hindi isn’t the national language. India doesn’t have a national language.

@BoyBangla you are going off topic dude. I never started any shit. My assumption is that Bangladeshis gets too much credit for doing nothing by associating with Bengalis. I just don’t want you to call yourself a Bengali because you are not.
you are a Bangladeshi and be proud of it. yippie

Nevertheless, As India blurs the boundaries and gradually dilutes the regional languages and culture, e.g. Bengali Language in India, BANGLADESH WILL REMAIN THE LAST BASTION US BENGALIS AND OUR LANGUAGE AND CULTURE.

@tourkolkata YOU SAY “WEST” BENGAL …. THAT PROVES THERE HAS TO BE AN “EAST” BENGAL … WHICH MEANS THERE WAS A UNITED UNDIVIDED BENGAL, THAT HAD BENGALI PEOPLE.
WEST BENGAL + EAST BENGAL (Bangladesh) = BENGALI.
STUPID IDIOT SHIT STIRRER

@tourkolkata And once again, THOSE THAT SPEAK BENGALI IN INDIA ARE KNOWN AS INDIAN !
BENGALIS are from BANGLADESH – WHERE THE NATIONAL LANGUAGE IS BENGALI, LITERATURE IS BENGALI, IS THE PLACE OF THE ORIGINAL CAPITAL OF BENGAL.

@tourkolkata Firstly, In the USA all 50 states speak English. Secondly, there is no Ethnic distinction between states. One language, and script ensuring equality.
That is not the case in India where each state is ethnically and linguistically different, yet the National Language in the Government administration is HINDI which is spoken by the majority. Other languages are seen as minor. In India Bengali has been sidelined.
It is laughable you compare California to Calcutta [ kolkata ]

@tourkolkata I don’t like it when Bangladeshis call themselves Bengalis to better their status quo in the society and get falsely recognized as the great saviors of the world…when in reality, their country is filled with poor illiterates.
Bengalis are the people who wins Nobel Prizes and discovers new things. Bangladeshis are not Bengalis and will never be.

@BoyBangla LMAO
West Bengal is recognized as a state just like California is recognized as a state. When foreign investors come to India, they don’t just come to India. They come to West Bengal to setup their IT shops.
Anyway, what i am trying to get at here is the fact that Bengalis are from West Bengal. Bangladeshis are from Bangladesh.

@tourkolkata no i am not confused. Gurudeb wrote this song in 1906 when the Brits tried to divide Bengal on communal lines and it raised great patriotic fervour in all of Bengal which the included both WB and Bangladesh of today. So this song has the same significance to Bengali speaking people on both sides of the border. Unfortunately, time was the victor and Bengal was indeed divided in 1947 and it still is, Alas!

When people talk of India, they don’t think Bengali.

PEOPLE ASSOCIATE HINDI, WHEN THEY TALK ABOUT INDIA. THE MAJORITY OF PEOPLE IN INDIA SPEAK HINDI. IT IS THE LANGUAGE USED BY THE ADMINISTRATION OF INDIA, AND ACCEPTED AS THE BENCHMARK OF COMMUNICATION IN INDIA.
Hindi is synonymous to Indians – other languages are considered minor.

@tourkolkata Bangladesh gives clear international identity to Bengalis, and we have our own country and language.
Except Indians, who the hell recognises West Bengal? Just a sidelined minor state in the vast Hindi speaking and dominated INDIA. YOU INDIANS FIRST AND FOREMOST.
WE ARE THE REAL BENGALIS WITH OUR OWN COUNTRY – “BANGLA”-”DESH” GET IT – LITERALLY COUNTRY OF BENGALIS
