Does anyone know a current issue in Bangladesh?
ByI need to write a four page essay on a specific third world country, and I was assigned Bangladesh. I tried looking on the internet for a current issue but it only gave me arsenic in the water from 1998. Does anyone know a current issue that Bangladesh is facing? Drugs, Civil War, ect.

I know that Bangladesh has one of the highest population densities of any nation on earth, so overpopulation is definitely an issue.
When I was a little kid, I used to go to Catholic school, and they would always be raising money for the poor in Bangladesh, so I would assume severe poverty is also an issue.

I am from Bangladesh and I may give you 4 topics to fill four-pages:
1. Prices of essentials have reached unbearable level where lower-middle class people are suffering the most. Though this may be construed as a universal phenomenon, but from my life’s experience I could safely vouch that present economic turmoil has been unprecedented in recent history of Bangladesh. The causes are successive two flooding caused massive loss of crops, particularly rice, wheat and vegetables; Cyclone SIDR and massive arresting of alleged corrupt businessmen and politicians and on top of all these, the peoples’ representatives are either hiding or in jails, thereby the present non-party neutral caretaker government could not reach grass-root level even for the distribution of fertilizers and seeds etc.
2. Population explosion: We had 75 million people back in 1971 when we got liberated from Pakistan. The population in this year would be 150 million. The land mass of approximately 155,000 square kilometer (54,000 Square Miles) is disaster waiting to happen. If there is any type of natural calamities like earthquake or spread of contagious disease then lots of people would die due to one of the highest density of population with very weak infrastructures and housings.
3. Education: Lack of proper education, suiting the need of national development is hampering our progress. With inefficient and not properly educated people running our political leadership and statecraft is making one after another blunders, ruining our chance to be an emerging tiger of Asia.
4. Politicians: We have one of the worst possible political parties with culture to malign the country to curry favour of their foreign masters has been one of the major root cause of poverty of this unfortunate country. The changes that came on 11th January 2007 when the present caretaker government came to power has been a watershed event in the history of Bangladesh that can be counted as similar to the war of liberation that happened since March to December 1971. The dirty politicians are now facing the justice whereby they are being accounted for their ill gotten wealth and the corruption as well as criminal activities they conducted right from early-1972 till end-2006.
I have just touched the surface level on the major four issues facing Bangladesh. You may search internet to write or build further on these topics, if you like.

Have a nice learning!
