Question by How To Save A Life: How can I Volunteer in Bangladesh?
Hey, I’m a student who’s 16 years old and I live In NYC. I was thinking about doing some volunteer work in Bangladesh this summer break…but I have no idea where to start? I want to join some team that gathers students around my age or w.e and takes them there and then assign them some work. (whether its feeding them, teaching them, etc) Do anyone know where and how I can start? Any link to websites would be great.

Other information: I am willing to pay for the trip but my budget is 00—I speak Bengali–I’ve been to Bangladesh once but it was a long time ago

Its fine to here that you want to help Bangladeshi! We (Bangladeshi) got your help that you wish to help. Anyway you can connect with some NGO to work with them. Here I am a Rotaractor (a member of Rotaract Club) doing some development work beside of my job. You can donate your money to your local Rotaract/Rotary Club and say them to contact with any Rotaract or Rotary club of Bangladesh or also they can contact with me ( razonklnbd@yahoo.com ) as you wish. For your information, Rotaract ( http://www.rotary.org/programs/rotaract/index.html ) is a world wide organization and part of Rotary ( http://www.rotary.org ). Here we do project with joint venture with various club of the world. If you tell me where you exactly live I can help you by finding a local Rotaract Club of your community. You wish to help Bangladesh specifically thats why I suggest you. If you want to help worldwide then you can donate that money to our world wide fund TRF-The Rotary Foundation ( http://www.rotary.org/foundation/index.html ). For your information our fund is the largest fund of the world. Our remarkable project is to finance “Polio Vaccine ( http://www.rotary.org/foundation/polioplus/index.html )” world wide.

I have a Pakistani friend (senior from my institute in Pak era) who informed me the other day that his school going daughter living in USA has sponsored a poor Bangladeshi girl whereby she would take care of some of the aspects of the education of this girl.

I do not have full information about how she is helping while living in USA but it appears that there is some system already in place by which people can take part of the responsibility of poor but meritorious students of developing countries.

If you would like to know details then I may forward my friend’s contact details in USA and you can possibly talk and get to know more directly from them.

I think these types of direct financial helps are also good since you can save your Airfare, food & lodging and spend that money for the needy students.

Thank you for your fellow feeling and hope more people would follow your footsteps.
