How is Shewags comments about Bangladesh any different from some of Pontings/Haydens pre-match comments?

In fact is seems very deprecatory towards Bangladesh. I would put it a notch below some of Pontings pre-match comments.

Seems like Tendulkar had to face the flak that should have been Shewags burden:

What are your thoughts?

Though people are calling him arrogant but he is not known for giving diplomatic statements. Whatever he feels he speaks up. He is not used to such press conferences. While other names are well used to such questions.

The comments are in the same category but the main difference is Australia could always back up their comments. The Indian team although quality can sometimes show some fragility. If you make comments that puts fire in the belly of opposition players be ready and able to back up what you say.

hmmm may be he try to follow their mind games, but aus often give encouragement statements to give confidence to opponents, and they hit the opponent from other side. but statement was quite harsh.

I couldn’t find the eact words Sehwag said, but I gather they backfired on him big time given the way the match appears to be going. Shakib & Shahadat have shown him a thing or two about Bangladesh bowling, lol. As MrJinx says, Ponting can usually back up his pre-match rhetoric.

I wish you’d posted some of the comments of Ponting or Hayden that you refer to as I don’t remember any off hand. Ponting has his faults but I’ve never considered speaking badly of an opponent to be one of them. As others have mentioned, the Australian way is usually to talk up the opponent rather than provide them with motivation.

Well the Aussies usually say they are gonna win 5-0 or somebody is going to take a 10 for.I don’t think they have ever said a country’s cricket team is crap.

I actually think Sehwag did the right thing.Bangladesh is ordinary and there was nothing wrong with what he said plus pretty sure India could win this within 4 days.
