How to improve the lives of Bangladeshi people? Innovative and practical ideas needed?

Despite sustained domestic and international efforts to improve economic and demographic prospects, Bangladesh remains a poor, overpopulated, and inefficiently-governed nation.

About a third of this extremely poor country floods annually during the monsoon rainy season, hampering economic development.

Environmental issues: many people are landless and forced to live on and cultivate flood-prone land; water-borne diseases prevalent in surface water; water pollution, especially of fishing areas, results from the use of commercial pesticides; ground water contaminated by naturally occurring arsenic; intermittent water shortages because of falling water tables in the northern and central parts of the country; soil degradation and erosion; deforestation; severe overpopulation.

Risk of infectious disease is high and sources include bacterial diarrhea, hepatitis A and E, typhoid fever, dengue fever, malaria, leptospirosis, and rabies.

I assume you are coming from Bangladesh.

Unfortunately this region is afflicted with all the bad things in one place. Government is sitting on their hands, warming the chair and do nothing. They owe it to their people.

Inefficient tax collection is the root cause. Nobody wants to pay tax (or they collect it efficiently) but the population demands the best of the best. It just does not work that way.

Thanks to this year’s Nobel peace prize winner in your country, Bangladesh is getting world’s attention. He has taken a step in the right direction. Congratulations.

Your country needs more of such people, who attack the cause. Another one: Biomass power generation. That means, generating electricity in the rural areas from cow dung. What a great idea…! California stole this idea and recently they have started a power plant similar to your country.

This country is somehow making new ideas work. More needs to be done.
