By , 0 viewsI will be traveling to India and bangladesh in January. I want to take my Dell Inspiron B 230 laptop with me and use it. But, I head that it requires some kind of additional power adapter or converter thing. If anyone faced this issue or if someone is aware of it please let me know. I will really Appretiate it.
Thanks.
Hiba.

Laptop power supplies are auto sensing as far as input voltage. What you will need though is an adapter to convert the wall socket to the standard US plug

You will need an adapter of some kind as other countries have different electrical outlet shapes and electrical properties.

Indians use 220 Volt Electricity. So if you have a standard 110 volt system, you need to purchase an adapter or converter.
Besides, India is no more safe for female tourists. There have been quite a few incidents of assault on single female tourists across India. So avoid India, if you can.

Yes, Hiba, you’ve heard it right.
In USA, we have a different electrical outlet than what they have in Europe and almost all of asia (including India; don’t know much about Bangladesh – sorry). However, the good thing is that you can either get a travel adapter from here (they are really cheap and can be found in any store such as walmart, target, etc. even 99 cent stores ! ) or they sell them in India as well. So basically, you won’t have an issue at all.
Just as a tip, make sure that you don’t take your laptop (if it’s brand new) in its original box b’cos those immigration officers might give you hard time at the airports. So just keep the laptop with you as if you use it daily and if anyone asks you, just inform him that you’ve brought it for personal use and plan to take it back when u leave the country.!
Thanks.

I am using the laptop bought in NY and brought here by my relative. There are options to switch the Input voltage option from 110V/60Hz (probably in USA) to 220V/50Hz (Bangladesh, India, Pakistan etc.).
All that you need to see that whether your laptop input plug and its adaptor are clearly marked for 110V / 220V, dual-mode. If that one is showing only 110V then better buy one adapter for either dual-voltage (110/220) or just for single voltage of 220V.
I know a few cases where people coming from USA did damage their electrical appliances by plugging 110V adaptor into our electrical lines which are having 220V/50Hz. I also burned my Panasonic Hand-free set of 110V when plugged in our line without first checking the voltage…lol
Legends:
1. Hz / Hertz = SI unit of frequency, equal to one cycle per second.
2. V / Volt = SI unit of electromotive force, the difference of potential that would carry one ampere of current against one ohm resistance.
Have a nice & safe journey!
