Ravi Shankar Live : Madison Square Gardens: Aug, 1971
By , 0 views
From one of the greatest live events of the 70′s. Concert For Bangladesh brought together some of the top musicians of the day for relief to the starving country of Bangladesh. The brainchild of Ravi Shankar and George Harrison, when asked to help… some of the greatest legends in Rock showed up …and didn’t take a penny. This is the Indian Music portion of the show. Ravi Shankar is possibly the greatest Sitar player ever. Ths is pretty amazing if you are unfamiliar with Indian music or the Sitar. Of trivia note.. Ravi Shankar is the father of Jazz singer Norah Jones. Enjoy… Better times…Better Place

The first time I heard anything by Ravi Shankar (Besides a few snips here and there). Amazing…this had me smiling from ear to ear just hearing it!

I love this music. There is no way to hold onto it.
Listening to it is just like watching a smoke cloud trail away.
The moment you think you have it pinned down, it surprises you.
So peaceful and awakening. Nothing else quite like this.

Ravi Shankar and Ustad Ali Akbar Khan play an amazing ensemble (5:50+). Their alternate solo riffs are brilliant.
They remind me of Feudin’ Banjos written for two banjos in 1955 by Arthur Smith. This concert was before the film deliverance came out.
