I am doing a report on sexism and I hear that many women are expected to cook, clean, stay at home, etc. and women who are raped will be punished. Is this why Bangladesh has such a good reputation?

good question.
well i can only say that in many countries women are so called lower than the men and cannot go out and they would have to cover themselves and can not go out unless thy have a male escort.

Unfortunately, in Bangladesh there are many cases of women abuse. The most common case is where a husband kills or tortures his wife for money. Another case, which Bangladesh is known for is acid attacks againsts women.
Acid attacks are now very rare compared to before since it is punishable by DEATH. In BAngladesh, there are very strict laws against violence of all forms unfortunately they are only enforced when money is on the table.
In Bangladesh, if a women gets raped, she is NOT to be punished. This is NOT Bengali Tradition. However, there are a few cases of this happening due to external influences. But it is strictly not practiced by the majority. Only some fanatics like to do so for their own purposes. In Bangladesh, raping means getting HANGED or getting BEAT TO DEATH by the locals.
In the Bengali culture as in all other Indian cultures ( Hindu or Muslim) , the women are espected to stay home. I would say that in Bangladesh, this is the case for families who have money. If you go to BAngladesh you will see women breaking bricks on streets. Besides, Bangladesh’s main industries are Clothing Factories, Tea Gardens and Farming. In all these working environments you will see women dominating the scenes.
If you are doing a report on women suffering under Islamic fanatics perhaps BAngladesh IS NOT the right country. Bangladesh has a great reputation for being the most moderate Muslim practicing country.
You must also know that in Bangladesh women are very respected and protected. It is a shame that there are scums who kill their beautiful wives for money. You must also know that Bangladesh is a very corrupt and poverous nation.
Due to corruption in Bangladesh, it is not only the women who suffer. The poor and the helpless suffer while the strong eat….just like the jungle. You will be surprised in hearing how women can also be corrupt in Bangladesh. Women torturing other women mentally and by physical forces is as common as men abusing women.
Crimes occur in Bangladesh just like in other countries but trust me in that Women in Bangladesh are well respected.
