> Understand the principles and requirements for designing, developing, managing and reporting organization or company-level GHG inventories.
> Be able to provide outline details in relation to the requirements for determining GHG emissions boundaries, quantifying an organization’s GHG emissions, removals and identifying company actions or activities which could assist in improving GHG management.
> Have an understanding the management system and guidance on GHG inventory quality management, reporting, internal auditing and the organization’s responsibilities in verification activities.
> Understand the principles and requirements for determining project baselines and for monitoring, quantifying and reporting the project performance relating to the baseline.
> Understand GHG measurement and reporting methodologies, together with the auditing of GHG information and data.
The course uses a mixture of taught sessions, discussions and practical exercises to achieve its aims. The practical exercises are based upon a fictional company. However, the procedures, work instructions and data are typical and could relate to many different enterprises equally. The practical exercises have been carefully designed to focus upon issues that commonly arise during GHG accounting/Carbon footprinting and verification.

> Brief introduction on the effects of global warming and climate change;
> Introduction of ISO 14064 – Organizational carbon accounting standard;
> Introduction to PAS 2050 – Product carbon accounting standard;
> Understanding of the GHG emission accounting;
> Carbon accounting principles implementation;
> ISO 14064-1 Implementation;
> Quantification methodologies of common GHG emission;
> Quantification of Scope 3 emissions;
> Carbon foot printing practices – organizational, project, product, event;
> Carbon accounting verification principle – ISO 14064-3;
> Validation and verification of GHG assertions;
> Carbon neutral and carbon trade practices; and
There is a two and half hour examination for this course. Delegates will also be assessed on the basis of their progress throughout the exercises. Delegates who successfully complete both the examination and the continuous assessment will be awarded a certificate of Successful Completion and will satisfy the formal training requirements for IRCA GHG Accounting Auditor Certification scheme.
