What are the environmental impacts of the Bangladeshi floods? Preferably flooding in 2004. Also what river management schemes have been put in place and what does the future look like in terms of flooding and coping with floods for Bangladesh?

One positive impact is that alluvium floods the fields (river floods) which makes them more fertile and is essential for farming,
negatives are salt water (coastal flooding) flattens and kills crops, breaks up fishing boats so people cannot fish, tidal floods kill fresh-water fish, drowns livestock, etc.

- They built earth embankments to prevent flooding, but thhis can actually speed up course of river and stop fields getting fertile deposits- good for use near cities though.
- they have built flood shelters called ‘Killas’ which people can go to with their possesions and animals so lives are saved
- They have improved forecasting by using satellite imaging, so give people earlier warnings of flooding.

hope it helps :)
