I went this year to Pakistan and I think it has vastly improved in 3 years, better road network more modernised now then it ever was. However I do recommend that you be aware of your sorrounding as there is a lot of crime there in both Bangladesh and Pakistan and they see westerners as easy targets, but that is really in rural areas. Most westerners that I know or work in Pakistan are in the capital city of Islamabad which is quite safe and it is very vibrant, modernised. You may wanna think of the cost because due to inflation in Pakistan things cost a lot more.

I was previously attached to our Bangladesh office and am actually missing those 3 years i spent there.
The country is a hot humid boring flat landscape with no mountain or greens (except in the eastern Chittagong district). Over-crowded with peoples and buildings, ever noisy and the dark smoke from the vehicles.
There are many high end cosy eateries offering foreign dishes. There is 1 KFC and 1 Pizza hut in the high end ‘Gulshan’ district in the capital, this is where foreigners live.
Surprisingly, the peoples are humble, be it in the city or the rural areas, they are friendly and always helpful without asking anything in return. I didn’t hear any criminal cases towards foreigners like myself during that 3 years stint. (This is in stark contrast to my trip to India where i was ripped off at every turns and corners).

Dude, drop this idea…over there, whenever they see a foreigner they try to fool you and take advantage of you as you would not know much about their tricks and ways. Roads, lifestyle, environment, quality of food and air- everything is down in the drains…do not even think about it…
(I visited both the countries last year)

Hi! I’m from Bangladesh. I would say if you are young and likes to go places where inconveniences may be the order of the day then visit Pakistan & Bangladesh.
I lived in Karachi when it was a tranquil city back in 1960s & 70s. But seeing pictures on TV and reading Times & such magazines, I would say that this may not be the right time for any ‘foreigners’ (who looks like Caucasians) to visit Pakistan, which is about 6 times bigger than Bangladesh and has many places of tourist attraction. But consider getting into chaos when there is terrorist attacks & suicide bombers and kidnappers who took this as profession to extract money.
If you consider above threats then Bangladesh is far more safer than Pakistan. The present government of Awami League (AL) who are running the country has big and powerful muscle to control anarchy and having close relationship with big neighbor India made our lives lil better in the last one year we are having less worries coming across the border.
Therefore, if you ever desire to visit Bangladesh then come anytime between November to February when it is our Winter-time and you would find th weather pleasant for your stay and travel. Right now in March-June we would have sweltering heat and humidity & dust swirling in daytime with mosquitoes in night time would make your visit not very good one to savor. Btw, within the Dhaka and Chittagong cities you would be very tired & bored when caught-up in our nasty traffic congestion (known here as traffic-jam).
You would be surprised to see the US Embassy’s size in Bangladesh where there are about 50 other foreign embassies and High Commissioner’s office where thousands of US citizens are either working in different projects or doing business in Bangladesh.
Have a nice trip in our country.
